Castle 5.24 “Watershed” Review

May 16, 2013 | No Comment |

The fifth season of Castle ended with the episode Watershed. It was a fitting finale that highlighted the major changes and the chances that were abound.

Watershed

The relationship between Castle and Beckett was under fire as Beckett decided to attend the interview for the great chance she had in DC but without anyone else knowing about it. Though it is a sensible thing to keep it a secret till she has decided, not telling to Castle about it was certainly bad considering they were in a relationship.

‘Castle aptly pointed out the main problem in their relationship saying that she did not care about him to include him in her decision making. It hurt him a lot. In Beckett’s point of view, she had her career to worry about, as her personal front too is not that stable at present.

Becket excelled in her interview and gets a stunning recommendation from Gates. She admits to her father that what she desired for at that point was the new job.

Castle had an emotionally touching time with his mother Martha. She tells him that Beckett deserved the change but also wanted to know how far they had progressed on the relationship front. Castle is undecided about his next move.

Rick and Kate meet on the swings, which is a significant place that had nurtured their relationship. Castle admits that he wanted more from the relationship and that both of them deserved to be happy. This seems like they would break up, but instead Rick Castle proposed to her and finally he had done what seemed to be an impossible thing till now.

The scene at the swings was certainly the highlight of the show and it was wonderfully romantic.

The scene that followed was the natural conclusion that the writers have done a good job at. With Beckett still not having replied to his proposal and seeing how desperate she is about the job it looks like a big tangle for her. Beckett leaving for NYC is something that cannot be contemplated. If she refuses the job and stays back then she would certainly resent him. With the season ending on this note, viewers have to wait for the next season to find out the fate of the two. It would be a fantastic turn to the story, if they ended up together.

The friendship between Becket and Espo was a good one and he always knew what her moves would be. He would be certainly let down by her decision. Ryan and his wife expecting a baby was good news and he would definitely be a wonderful father. Fans will have to wait till September to know the fate of Castle and Beckett.
